Military PCS — 3 Vehicles, Virginia to Hawaii

The Challenge

An active duty E-7 received PCS orders from Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. The family owned three vehicles — a 2023 Toyota Highlander (primary family vehicle), a 2021 Honda Civic (spouse's commuter), and a 2019 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. The military's POV entitlement covered only one vehicle through the VPC system. The remaining two needed commercial shipping. The family's report date was in 6 weeks, and all three vehicles needed to arrive within the PCS window. Coordinating mainland transport, port delivery for the ocean leg, and Hawaii-side logistics for three different vehicles simultaneously — while the family was also managing household goods, travel, and school enrollment — demanded a single point of coordination.

The Solution

We assigned a dedicated military-experienced coordinator to manage all three shipments as a unified project. The Toyota Highlander was processed through the VPC for government-funded ocean transport to Hawaii. The Honda Civic and Harley-Davidson were shipped commercially: open transport from Virginia to the Port of Oakland, then ocean freight to Honolulu, then local delivery to base housing at Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The motorcycle required specialized crating for the ocean leg. All timelines were synchronized so the family wouldn't be without vehicles for more than a few days after arrival. Military discount was applied to both commercial shipments, and we provided documentation formatted for TMO reimbursement processing.

The Result

All three vehicles were delivered within the PCS window. The government-funded Highlander arrived through VPC on schedule. The commercially shipped Civic and Harley-Davidson arrived within 3 days of the Highlander. Total cost for the two commercial shipments came in under the family's PPM budget, and reimbursement documentation was accepted by TMO on first submission. The family had all three vehicles operational within their first week at the new duty station.
